New Horizon Loan Program

Description: Join Eric Reed as he discusses the New Horizon Loan Program, an alternative assistive technology finance program under the Assistive Technology Act of 2004, Section 4 (e)(2)(A). The purpose of this program is to assist individuals with disabilities finance assistive technology at reasonable interest rates. While the NHLP still has requirements for credit and debt to income, they are typically more flexible or lower than traditional banking requirements.
The program also offers a telework and self-employment loan, which can assist with the funding of assistive technology and equipment for individuals for work or seeking self-employment opportunities.

He will answer questions on how the CIL provides assistance to individuals with significant disabilities who are at risk of entering institutions so that the individuals remain in the community, and how CIL assists youth with their transition from High School to Post-Secondary education or employment.

Description: Don will present on JAWS.  JAWS is the world’s most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC. You will be able to navigate the Internet, write a document, read an email and create presentations. Don will discuss:  What is a screen reader? He will explain in detail that a screen reader is a software program that enables a blind or visually impaired user to read the text that is displayed on the computer screen with a speech synthesizer or braille display.
